چکیده

Introduction Evaluation of global sagittal spinal alignment has been recognized to be important for treating spinal deformity in recent years. Global sagittal alignment was evaluated on the lateral whole-spine radiograph and “fists-onclavicle position” was widely used as arm position during radiographic acquisition. Several studies reported the validity of the fits-on-clavicle position in adult patients, but there were few studies about adolescent patients due to the radiation exposure problem. In the present study, we evaluated postural difference between natural drop arm and fits-on-clavicle position using radiation free 3D scanner system.

Causes of sagittal spinal imbalance and assessment of the extent of needed correction.

Most patients with spinal sagittal imbalance have a fusion mass that is either kyphotic or hypolordotic, with segments above or below the fusion that have subsequently degenerated. The four most common presentations include a patient who had a long fusion for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with subsequent degeneration distally; a patient with degenerative sagittal imbalance in whom fusions hav...

Sagittal alignment of the spine-pelvis-lower extremity axis in patients with severe knee osteoarthritis

OBJECTIVES Normal sagittal spine-pelvis-lower extremity alignment is crucial in humans for maintaining an ergonomic upright standing posture, and pathogenesis in any segment leads to poor balance. The present study aimed to investigate how this sagittal alignment can be affected by severe knee osteoarthritis (KOA), and whether associated changes corresponded with symptoms of lower back pain (LB...

Arm positioning and postural sagittal variation: are kyphosis and lordosis measurements using x-ray reliable?

Background X-rays are the gold standard evaluation in scoliosis, and this is considered true also for sagittal plane deformities. While it is very well known that posture can change scoliosis curves, this has never been verified for the sagittal plane. In the case of sagittal alignment, it is even more important because to see the spine, there is the need to move the arms from the resting physi...

The position with fingers on clavicles has no influence on vertical trunk inclination and kyphosis but significantly changes surface topography lordosis angle

Background Radiographic lateral spine view remains the gold-standard evaluation for sagittal curvatures of the spine. Specific positioning of the forward upper extremities during radiographic exposure is recommended to ensure no vertebra is obscured. However, the postural impact of arm positions has never been verified for the normal adolescent population. As a result, no data are available abo...

Reliability Analysis of Spino-Pelvic Parameters in Adult Spinal Deformity: A Comparison of Whole Spine and Pelvic Radiographs.

STUDY DESIGN Retrospective study. OBJECTIVE To examine the reliabilities of sagittal spino-pelvic alignment measurements using whole spine-pelvic and local pelvic radiographs and to determine whether spinal deformity affects these reliabilities. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Sagittal spino-pelvic alignment is important in adult spinal deformity patients (ASD). Spino-pelvic parameters are close...
